Ever since finding out I was milk intolerant, cheese has been the food I have missed most. I used to eat cheese on a daily basis, sprinkled on everything, but I have always struggled to find a dairy free cheese that lives up to normal cheese expectations. I’m absolutely fine with dairy free milk alternatives, yoghurts and ice creams, but cheese is something I have found to never taste the same. Of all the dairy free cheeses I have tried, Violife has always been the one that I have reached for as it tastes the best, so I was very excited when they contacted me to ask if I wanted to try one of their new dairy free Christmas cheese platters. The cheese platter is gluten free, milk free, suitable for vegans, soya free, nut free and preservative free, so perfect for anyone with allergies and intolerances.
If you haven’t heard of Violife before, they are a vegan brand specialising in cheese alternatives which includes cheddar, mozzarella, creamy cheese, halloumi, as well as every cheese alternative you could ever think of! The new christmas dairy free platter is ideal for someone who loves cheese, but misses out at Christmas when the classic cheeseboard makes an appearance. The Christmas platter contains 3 different dairy free alternatives; Blu cheese, Cranberry cheese and Mature cheese.
Here are my thoughts on the 3 different cheeses that come in the platter:
My favourite flavour out of the 3 is the Mature cheddar alternative, which is the cheese that I normally buy individually on a weekly basis. I always use this cheese in my sandwiches, on toast, or as a topper for dishes like lasagne and pasta bake. This is a great addition to the cheese platter as its something that everyone will like and tastes great with a gluten free cracker!
I also absolutely loved the Cranberry after dinner flavour, and this tasted great on crackers! This wouldn’t be the sort of cheese you would use on an every day occurrence, but it is the perfect flavour to go with a Christmas dinner.
To be totally honest, I wasn’t a fan of the Blu cheese as I think its more of an acquired taste and something I have never really enjoyed. However, if you are a Blu cheese fan, I’m sure it would be right up your street!
As you can see from the above photos, I served the cheese with Schar’s gluten and lactose free cream crackers which went perfectly together. This dairy free Christmas cheese platter can be picked up in Sainsburys for £5 and will ensure that even with allergies and intolerances, you don’t miss out this Christmas!
