As my July Favourites (Link here) seemed to go down so well last month, I have decided to carry on with these monthly favourite blogs and I have to say, I have a LOT of August favourites! I have been jotting down various gluten and dairy free products throughout the month that I have loved and the list just seems to have grown and grown! Either that or I spend way too much time in supermarket’s, restaurants and cafes sussing out the vast array of gluten free products!
Here are my gluten and dairy free August favourites:
Alpro dark chocolate almond milk
I’m absolutely loving this dark chocolate almond milk at the moment and have been using it as a milk alternative on my cereal and granola! It’s honestly perfect with granola, nuts and berries for breakfast and also as a yummy snack or dessert! I have also been enjoying it in coffee and makes it taste like a delicious mocha! Alpro dark chocolate almond milk is gluten free, dairy free, milk free, wheat free, egg free, suitable for vegans and soya free! A perfect alternative to normal chocolate milk which is not only better for you but better for the environment and tastes amazing! It can be brought in most major UK supermarkets.
M&S made without wheat prawn mayonaise sandwich
I think I have probably tried all of the UK’s gluten and milk free sandwich options by now and I have to say, this one is my all time favourite! The sandwich is packed full of prawns, tastes amazing and is my go to for when I forget (or can’t be bothered) to make lunch for work! It can be brought from the food hall in Marks and Spencer’s and costs around £3.20 which is a bit more pricey than a normal sandwich but worth it!
I recently visited Brighton for the very first time and whilst there, tried out various different gluten and dairy free options (click here for a link to my Brighton foods blog here). One of my favourite places was a lunch spot called Bagelman which is in various different locations around Brighton centre. More details about the locations can be found over on my Brighton foods blog. Bagelman sells tasty gluten free breakfast and lunch bagels and I had mine with chicken, bacon, avocado and sweet chilli sauce. It was absolutely delicious and I would definitely recommend checking it out if you are visiting Brighton!
Yorica Moments, London
I first tried Yorica Moments free from ice cream at the Allergy and Freefrom show a couple of months ago and have been desperate to visit the store in London ever since! Yorica is located in both Soho and Notting Hill and fortunately, my train home from Brighton a few weeks ago passed through London (near Soho) and there was time to visit before my next train! Yorica is a freefrom ice cream shop where everything is dairy free, gluten free, soya free, egg free, nut free and vegan! I went for cookie and pea(NOT) flavoured ice cream topped with gluten free biscuits and a caramel sauce! A definite thumbs up from me and I will be visiting again next time I’m in London. In the mean time, can we start a petition to get another store in Solihull/Birmingham? 🙂
I picked up this freefrom Sacla Pesto in Lidl a few weeks ago and have loved incorporating it into my lunches and dinners. The pesto is unlike most other brands of pesto and is gluten free, dairy free and wheat free. You will find that often, Pesto contains milk so I was very happy to have found this! My favourite way to use it is to stir it into gluten free pasta and add various toppings such as mushrooms, dairy free cheese and vegetables. A delicious quick and easy meal which is perfect for if you are in a rush!
Zizzi’s chocolate torte
All I can say is YUM. Zizzi’s have recently started offering a new gluten free, dairy free and vegan dessert being a sticky chocolate and praline torte with coconut ice cream and honeycomb pieces. I honestly couldn’t believe that this was gluten and dairy free when I first tried it and was convinced I was going to get ill because it was too good to be freefrom! However I was absolutely fine and ordered it again the next time I went. I definite must have if you are visiting Zizzi’s.
Borough 22 doughnuts
I have always wanted to try these Borough 22 gluten free and vegan doughnuts but as they only used to sell them in London, I hadn’t had a chance to. However a few weeks ago I was shopping at the Bull Ring in Birmingham and spotted that they now sell them in Selfridges! How amazing! They honestly taste fantastic, just like real doughnuts! I tried the cinnamon sugar flavour and vanilla and can’t wait to go back to try all of the other flavours!
GOSH mushroom bakes
GOSH is a range that I have never actually tried before and was pleasantly surprised when I tried their mushroom, puy lentil and butter bean burgers, They are gluten free, egg free, dairy free, soya free and suitable for vegans and can be brought from Tesco or Morrisons. I had mine with salad, corn on the cob and gluten free focaccia which I also picked up in Tesco along with hummus. A great meat free alternative to normal burgers and I can’t wait to try the rest of their range!
The Primal Pantry paleo protein brownie
If you have seen my Instagram, you will probably already know that I’m a huge snackaholic and am always on the hunt for healthy alternative snack bars to keep me going throughout the working day! I picked this bar up from the Coop and absolutely loved the cakey brownie flavour. The bar is gluten free, dairy free and suitable for vegans along with containing 10g of protein so perfect for a post workout snack too!
Kettle chips sea salt and balsamic vinegar
I try not to eat too many crisps these days however, couldn’t resist picking up these kettle chips after realising they are now gluten free! They used to contain barley so I was unable to eat them however after changing recipes they are now gluten free! They are such a yummy flavour and a delicious treat. These crisps are also dairy free and suitable for vegans.
Honey and Date raspberry raw cake
I picked up this delicious Artisan raspberry raw cake from Wholefoods last weekend and loved the flavour! These mini raw cakes are free from gluten, soy, dairy and refined sugar and are the perfect dessert which is handcrafted in London. I can’t wait to try the rest of the flavours and will definitely be visiting Wholefoods again to stock up!
So there we have it, my very long August favourites! I hope you have enjoyed this post and if you try any of the delicious products please let me know what you think:)
